Third Young Scientists Summit has kick off in Capital

Third Young Scientists Summit -Uniglobe SS College, Kamaladi, Kathmandu.

To provide a platform for the aspiring students of science and technology, third Young Scientists Summit (YSS) has kick off in the capital today. Nepal Polymer Institute (NPI) organized the national level annual summit with the participation of youths with research projects and ideas.The first and second series of YSS were successfully organized in 2016 and 2017 in Kathmandu respectively.The third is being held in Uniglobe SS College, Kamaladi, Kathmandu.

The summit opening ceremony was held on 17th Nov. 2018 (9am) inaugurated by Chief Guest Prof. Dr. Jeeb Nath Dhital (Executive Director, Research Centre for Educational Innovation and Development, TU), with Guests of Honour Dr. Rabindra Dhakal (NAST), Madhav Dhungel (Executive Vice Chair, National Youth Council), Mr. Ajay Bahadur Pradhananga (Former President, Nepalese Young Entrepreneurs Forum,NYEF).

 After the tea break Keynote Lecture was given by Dr. Basant Pant,(Annapurna Neuro Hospital, Kathmandu) which was about Exploring our Research Potentials from Early Age. He mentioned how a girl who started training from the age of three came to become world champion in table tennis and advised to start as soon as you can. He quoted“Most people do it to live but we should live to do”. Criticizing the current education system of our country, he suggested that the education should be open and creativity based learning system. He explained how sometime the technology can hamper and kill an innovative ideas that are in conceptual stage. He also stated how middle man in science is taking advantage of the application of innovative ideas giving few examples. A screw of 303 steel costs Rs10 in the market but the same 303 steel when used as medical package costs Rs 10,000. He explained how an expensive technology can be brought in Nepal with high price cut and advised never to mystify science and make it as simple as we can. After that, few questions from the audience were answered.

Ajay Bahadur Pradhananga (Entrepreneur) stated the Government, and private research centre should take hands together and move on to industrialization and commercialization promoting self sustained resources and demoting imports. He explained how understanding economy will help realizing the market demand and use science to deliver the requirement and create platforms. He suggested to create an ecosystem to move forward and not solo for changing the idea into application.

After these talks Panel Discussion-I under the topic Science; Philosophy to Application (moderator: Dr. Sharmila Pradhan) was held. After lunch break Poster season (presentation and demonstration by the participants) was held where evaluation was done by Jury. Soon after Panel Discussion -II (moderator Mr. Kumar Khadka) under the topic Science; Technology to economy was completed with panelists : Dr.Pramod Dhakal (Chair, NRN Open University Task Force) Ms. Jyoti Giri(Treasurer at NPI; Research Scholar, CDC, TU), Mr. Surendra Pandey (Former Finance Minister), Dr. Mahabir Pun (Chairman National Innovation Centre) that concluded today’s program.

This summit will be held till 18th Nov. 2018.
