Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) organized a program “Meet Your Scientists” on February 6, 2017. Health Minister of Nepal Government, Gagan Thapa was invited as the chief guest and experts on the topic of the program “Air Pollution, Health problems and Solutions” were also present. The ongoing pollution of the air due to the extension of the roads in the capital was the major issue. The program of about 4 hours was inaugurated by the minister.
The department of promotion of NAST invited personnel from the media to cover the event and aware the public about the opinions of the experts about the health hazards by the pollution of air in the capital and other major cities of the country. The vice-chancellor of NAST highlighted the right way of the construction of roads. He said, “There should be such a model of the construction where the concrete road is connected to the pavements, and pavements to lawns.” He said that construction should be done so that no dust particle will come to the surface. Experts stressed the fact that inhaling polluted air lessens our life expectancy by 2 to 3 years and is very harmful to our health. Mitigating factors should be implemented and current air pollution is a very serious issue that should be timely addressed.
